If you watch the creator perform it (it's easy to find on UA-cam), he shows what this trick can really look like. The instructions could be better and manipulating the cards can be tricky. Thanks. When I'm first learning a trick, I tend to over-emphasize the movements and it takes a couple of real performance to begin to calm down. Definitely the case here. Agree that it's knacky as the cards have to aligned properly.

I found the magic set online on eBay. Without actually seeing the cards, I'm not sure. But usually with these types of tricks, the spectator freely selects a card and then either removes the cards that have his selection and holds them, or gives the magician the cards. Using the viewer, you're able to somehow see their card.

@@AboutMagic It's a nine card grid, and a spectator thinks of one of the cards on that grid, and they're all on the same card while the others have holes on them with some cards missing from the nine grid.

I certainly know coin tray and I think money to water is either an ordinary bill with a well known gimmick, or is it a tube that changes a bill to water? Is die tunnel the one where a spectator puts a die in a couple of tubes and the magician can tell what number is on top? I think fortune cards are those five or six cards with various objects on them. A spectator selects one object in their mind and gives you cards and you can tell them what it is. Is that the one?

@@AboutMagic Die Tunnel is where you have a die and a nice little plastic tube, and you ask the spectator to pay close attention to the number at the top and the number changes as it goes through the tunnel and out the other side. It's easy to do and would work for street magic, but I don't know if it would be a good idea to hand it out for examination.

@@AboutMagic Fortune Cards is where you have a spectator think of a playing card. He doesn't get to choose from a deck of 52 cards, but he does get to choose from nine of the cards that are on this one card, and you use the others to figure out what card he thought of. The other cards have holes in them.

I'm unfamiliar with the Die Tunnel trick. It sounds like a good trick. Is it the die that you can't hand out? Or the tube? Or both? If it's just the die, you can probably swap it out as you hand it to someone. The tube might be another matter.

I've seen versions of this kind of trick, but I don't think I've seen or worked with the Fortune Cards that you own.

Is that a French drop with a Chinese coin that has a hole in it? Or good old Han Ping Chien?

Yes, you're right. There is a trick where the plastic cup is cut along the concentric circle on the bottom and allows the coin to fall through. We've taught that trick here on the channel but I can't find the video. This trick relies on purchased magic props but I'll be teaching a similar trick that can be done with household items in the near future.

​@@AboutMagicI thought you had the coin pinned against the cup with your left hand which would be easier than trying to track down a magnetic coin.

But with that method you can't fairly rest the mouth of the cup down on the table before the coin "passes" through (unless there's a hole in the cup). I'll teach a lesson in the near future of a similar trick that uses household materials and no magic props.

@@AboutMagic You rest the mouth of the cup on your right hand that clearly has a coin and then when you do the penetration, you palm the coin in your right hand while letting go with your left hand. Some people spend money, and some people play with money by doing tricks with it. Imagine a mugger trying to mug you for your coins, and you say he can have them and then proceed to make them vanish with the French drop and coin matrix and countless other illusions.

It could be done that way but this is a commercial prop.

That could definitely work. Probably use a long (pen length) piece of paper and roll it lengthwise so there's only one seam. I'll have to try it out. Thanks for the suggestion.

You’re very observant! You’re right, there’s a mistake in the performance. Even with this mistake, I would have realized that the count was off when I didn’t see the key card (at 12:00). Thanks for keeping me honest. Or at least as honest as a magician can be.
